PerSOULnalities: Poems For Every Kind of Woman

"Hi, first I must say congratulations on your first book...I am a friend of Dorcella. This morning while on the train to work, she showed me your poems. As I was flipping through the pages, the first one that caught my attention was, "Menacing Hypocrite!" Girl, I can relate to this one...this is deep. I have a girlfriend who betrayed my trust.... I really love this book...therefore, to show my support, I will ask Dorcella to pick one up for me. I also have a lot of writing all over the place and by just reading a few of your poems I am really thinking about putting my pieces together. All the best girl...and don't stop...make the sky your limit... Congratulations again."

"I enjoyed reading your book. A fresh, brilliant and down to earth book. It's funny, deep, a masterpiece in its own right. Beautiful poems. Straight to the point.

"Hypochondriac" is a truthful poem about a person who is sick of the expense of others and only interested in the convenience of herself. She's fine when it comes time to party, but when it's time to go to work on Monday or help others, suddenly she's ill. Hilarious!"

"Ms. Keeping It Real" is about an intellectual woman who was born in the ghetto and took it upon herself to make sure she became well educated, not only about the streets, but also about life's societal lessons such as hypocrisy and other lessons that the books could offer. The poem also suggests how society prejudges others based on how they look or where they come from. I can relate to this as I have been depicted improperly based on my appearance and my family's financial status. The poem is real."

"Dirty Dozen" is a powerful poem about being a new comer on the block and being judged by a group of people with what may be a superiority complex. These types of people consistently put others down and see others not of their status as beneath them. What I like about this poem, and what I could relate to, are these people depicted in Dirty Dozen put others down with nasty comments and don't realize that they are the weak ones, only making the ones they torment stronger, and even prouder to earn what they've received unlike the Dirty Dozen who apparently inherited this."

"Workaholics Who Want to Be Historic" is a real poem about a real workaholic addicted to making a name for herself and making that big dolar forgetting that the true humbleness and dedication has its truest rewards. Life goes by too quickly and before you know it, 20 years have passed and all of your hard work can all be in vain if a person doesn't remain humble and works too hard for all of the wrong reasons according to this wonderful poet, Heather Covington."

As you can see, Heather Covington's poems tell stories and describe perSOULnalities of every woman we all have known. We can relate to these poems in deep, personal matters. I suggest reading this book of poems over and over, for each time you will gain another surprise from it. I am looking forward to Heather Covington's next crusade of poetry.

Heather Covington is a remarkable woman. She is an inspiration for writers like myself to keep on writing. Heather constantly corresponds with me to touch base on my poetry writings and see how I am doing. I appreciate this kind of dedication as I know she is an extremely busy woman who always finds the time to help others. I have read and immensely enjoyed PerSOULnalities Poems For Every Kind of Woman who remind me of folks I have known and can relate to."

PERSOULNALITIES: POEMS FOR EVERY KIND OF WOMAN is a light_hearted volume of poetry that creatively depicts every human mood and persona imaginable. The poems are written from a female perspective thus the PERSOULNALITIES are

attributed to women, but often the characteristics described are not exclusively owned by women. Filled with positive messages that are meant to empower, Heather Covington looks at each facet of womanhood and radiates the

positive while offering cautioning advice on the negative attributes. It is easy to find oneself in at least one of the poems which are simply written with a clever and easy to follow flow. PERSOULNALITIES is a tribute to the tenacity and strength of women. Ms.Covington presents her thoughts in a clear, direct, yet lyrical manner which

makes them appealing to readers who would not typically read poetry and provides a change of pace for seasoned poetry fans.

A star bright personality!

Covington's writing kept me charmed this weekend. I attended her Disilgold workshop and was star_struck by her energy and personality as well. One star for life arts. One for enthusiam. One for something worthwhile to say. One for beauty of soul and spirit. A last star for endearing hope that her work encourages as we identify ourselves and the needs of others.

Heather tells the story!

'Dreamer'..This poem reminds me that the dreamer is just that...a dreamer in fantasy land. He's not reality. He will jilt your heart for sure. After looking into those dreamy eyes you'll soon wake up.'Smothered Lady'...My favorite line 'Yes, you are standing on my side but you're also crowding my mind,' brings the thought of an insecure spirit that will also bring negativity into a beautiful relationship. They won't let their partner breathe in a relationship. 'Song Lady'.. is a great poem that celebrates how music can move and groove us. It has rhythm and you can feel every beat.'Grateful Girl,' This is a wonderful mantra for woman to embrace what God has blessed them with. We are still beautiful just the way he has created us. Ladies, you know your worth!'Sweet Destiny,' I appreciate the time and effort Heather took to write each stanza. The first stanza discusses the case in which she prepares her body, the second stanza is completion of that work and in the 3rd stanza, she becomes ready to 'intoxicate' her man because she wants to nurture him as he 'flows down' her sea. I like that visualization. It is warm, sweet and very romantic!

I am impressed when young African Americans know anything about Langston Hughes. There are so many of us who know nothing about our geniuses. Heather Covington takes it a step further, she was so impressed by langston that she wrote a poem dedicated to him. In the poem she writes: You are the greates Mr. Hughes. You cut my soul and it is because of you that ink bleeds words onto paper. I hope this injury lasts forever. Brava, Heather! You have confirmed my motto: When we begin as writers, as intellectuals will begin. When we share the Glass Wall we crumble. Heather's book of poetry, PerSOULnalities, speaks with a voice that we as a people have pretended does not exist. How dare we criticize ourselves? Heather is young: speaks with a young and powerful voice, a voice that will enlarge the scope of poetry.

"I Appreciate Heather's Writing A lot"

I can say from my own experience and by reading your poetry, you are a very talented writer. These poems are staring me in the face. I speak for writers and readers that these poems tell us what we need to know in our own back yards. For example: Jokester Lady, fragile as life is, if anyone fails, they can pick up the pieces and move on or not take anything that gets in your way or takes you for granted. Heather is a remarkable writer, and I support her books, I am learning a new experience in poetry writing: it motivates me to write. These poems opened up windows in my life and are the people you come in contact with in every day living. god bless you Heather, keep up the pen of inspiration. Thank you for this work! I love it!

My favorite poem is Sarcastic Sue. There's always someone to give a compliment and they aren't really sincere. I can detect fake compliments really easily. I have met all of the characters in the book and I'm glad that the book sheds light on people I have met. I am buying the book for a few friends who act like some of the people in this book. I couldn't put the book down. It is very thorough and well written. some of the best poetry i have read in a long time. I hope everyone reads this book.

Heather Covington's debut Persoulnalities is a hit. Her poems had me in stitches as she uncovers the truths about ourselves and others. It is a witty, poetical, true, no bull, commentary that says all the not so great things about the people around us. You know who I'm talking about; the "Tramp," the "Show off," how about those people who never have any thing good to say, "Negativity Shoes," or our friends who think they were born to rule, "Dictators." Did you meet the "Eye Roving Bandit?"

Persoulnalities identifies the common attributes we hate about our so called friends. It is a must read.

I enjoyed every one of Heathers' "PerSOULnalities". I recognized some, even identified with a few. My favorite is "Late Lucy" and I laughed when I met "Ms. Unimportant". And I'm sure that "Ruffle Feathers," "Society Lady" and Gossiping Goose" are friends of mine! Heather's book is a refreshing, entertaining look at some PerSOULnalities we've all come in contact with, even if we won't admit it.
